Asisto vs Google Voice

A cheap business phone number that lives inside Google Workspace, sold per user.

The short answer

Google Voice is a phone number with voicemail, and at its price it is very good at that. It has no AI receptionist and no appointment booking, so it answers nothing when you cannot pick up.

The honest read

Google Voice is the honest budget option and this page will not pretend otherwise: if you want a business number that rings your phone and takes a voicemail, it is cheap, reliable and already inside a Workspace account you probably pay for. What it does not do is answer. There is no AI receptionist, no appointment booking, and an auto-attendant only from the middle tier. Every call you cannot take becomes a voicemail and a callback you owe someone. Asisto exists for businesses where that trade has started costing real bookings.

Where Google Voice wins

  • By far the cheapest way to get a business number, and Asisto does not compete on that.
  • Native to Google Workspace, so it is already in the admin console you use.
  • Google’s reliability and support, at a price no small vendor can match.
  • Genuinely all most solo operators need if their phone is rarely the bottleneck.

Where Asisto wins

  • Someone actually answers. Google Voice has no AI receptionist at any tier.
  • Books appointments onto your calendar during the call rather than taking a voicemail.
  • Two-way SMS handled by AI, including reading photos sent by MMS.
  • Intent-based routing and IVR menus on every plan rather than from the middle tier.
  • Calls new leads back within seconds instead of waiting for you to return a message.

How each one charges

Questions people ask

Does Google Voice have an AI receptionist?
No. It offers voicemail with transcription, and an auto-attendant from the middle tier that plays a menu. Neither holds a conversation, answers a question or books anything.
Can Google Voice book appointments?
No. A caller who wants an appointment leaves a voicemail and waits for you to call back. Asisto books the slot during the call and writes it to your calendar.
Is it worth paying more than Google Voice costs?
Only if missed calls are costing you more than the difference. Work out your average job or appointment value and how many calls a week go unanswered - if that number is small, Google Voice is a perfectly sensible choice and you should keep it.
