Dialer
Make outbound calls directly from your browser with the built-in dialer.
The Dialer lets you make phone calls right from your Asisto dashboard — no desk phone needed. Call customers, follow up on missed calls, or hand off a live conversation to your AI receptionist mid-call.
Opening the Dialer#
Access the dialer from multiple places:
- Dialer page — Navigate to Dialer from the sidebar
- Contact profile — Click a contact's phone number to pre-fill the dialer
- Favorites — Tap any favorite contact to start a call
- Floating button — A compact dialer button is available throughout the dashboard
Making a Call#
- Enter the number — Use the 12-key dialpad or type a number directly
- Select your caller ID — Choose which of your provisioned phone numbers to call from
- Press Call — The call begins dialing
Your browser will request microphone permission the first time you make a call. This is required for the call to work.
Call States#
During a call, the dialer moves through these stages:
| State | What's Happening |
|---|---|
| Idle | Ready to dial — enter a number and press call |
| Calling | Ringing the recipient, waiting for them to answer |
| Connected | Live call in progress — you're speaking with the other person |
| Failed | The call couldn't be completed (shows an error message) |
In-Call Controls#
While connected, you have several controls:
- Mute / Unmute — Toggle your microphone on or off
- Keypad (DTMF) — Send touch-tone digits during the call (useful for navigating phone menus)
- Call Timer — See how long you've been on the call
- End Call — Hang up with one click
AI Handoff#
One of the dialer's most powerful features is the ability to hand off a live call to your AI receptionist:
Give to AI#
During an active call, press Give to AI to transfer the conversation to your AI receptionist. The AI takes over and continues the call — useful when you need to step away or when the caller needs to book an appointment.
Take Back#
If the AI is handling a call and you want to resume, press Take Back to rejoin the conversation.
This seamless handoff means you can start a call personally and let the AI handle scheduling, or let the AI answer and jump in when a human touch is needed.
Pre-Filling from Contacts#
When you open the dialer from a contact's profile, the phone number is automatically filled in. This makes it easy to:
- Return missed calls with one tap
- Follow up on recent conversations
- Call favorite contacts instantly
Tips for Using the Dialer#
- Grant mic access — Allow microphone permission when prompted for the best experience
- Choose the right caller ID — Select the phone number that matches the location or context of the call
- Use AI handoff — Start calls personally and hand off to the AI for appointment booking
- Use the keypad — DTMF tones let you navigate automated phone systems during outbound calls
