Messages & SMS

Send and receive text messages with customers directly from your dashboard.

The Messages page lets you manage SMS and MMS conversations with your customers — all in one place. Whether the AI sent an automated confirmation or you need to follow up manually, every text thread is organized and searchable.

Conversations Overview#

Your conversations list shows all SMS threads with customers. Each conversation displays:

  • Contact Name — The customer's name (or phone number if unknown)
  • Last Message Preview — A snippet of the most recent message
  • Timestamp — When the last message was sent or received
  • Message Count — Total messages in the thread

Conversations update in real time — new messages appear automatically without refreshing the page.

Viewing a Conversation#

Click any conversation to open the full message thread:

  • Complete History — All messages displayed chronologically
  • Sender Badges — Each message is labeled as AI, Human, or Customer so you always know who said what
  • Media Attachments — Images, documents, and other files are shown inline with previews
  • AI Analysis — When the AI processes an incoming message (such as an image), you'll see its analysis annotations
  • Timestamps — Every message shows when it was sent

Sending Messages#

Reply to any conversation or start a new one:

  1. Open a conversation (or click Compose to start a new thread)
  2. Type your message in the reply area
  3. Optionally attach files — images, documents, and other media
  4. Click Send

Attachments are previewed before sending so you can verify what you're sharing.

MMS & Media Support#

Asisto supports rich media messaging:

  • Send images and documents — Attach files directly from your computer
  • Receive MMS — View photos, screenshots, and files customers send you
  • Inline previews — Media is displayed right in the conversation thread
  • AI Vision — When customers send images, the AI can analyze them and provide context

Archiving Conversations#

Keep your inbox clean by archiving conversations you no longer need front and center. Archived threads can be accessed later if needed.

SMS Opt-Out & Compliance#

Asisto respects customer communication preferences and TCPA compliance:

  • Customers can reply STOP to opt out of SMS messages
  • Opted-out contacts are flagged automatically
  • The system prevents sending messages to opted-out numbers
  • Customers can reply START to opt back in

Tips for Using Messages#

  1. Follow up after calls — Send a quick text after missed calls to stay connected
  2. Use media — Share documents, directions, or photos when a text is easier than a call
  3. Check sender badges — Know whether the AI or a team member sent each message
  4. Archive old threads — Keep your active conversations list focused on current customers
